Ulster FRYday – YOFAD!

Ulster FRYday – YOFAD!

YOFAD

Ahhh!  An Ulster Fry!  There really is nothing quite like it!  Everyone puts their own little twist to what a ‘true’ Ulster Fry is, but for me there are some things which are essential.

  • Pork Sausage
  • Bacon
  • Soda bread
  • Potato bread
  • Fried egg
  • Veg roll
  • Tomato
  • Mushrooms
  • Baked beans (depending on the mood)

Either way, I think there’s enough from the list for everyone to make their own version of the much sought after breakfast (and sometimes lunch)! Believe it or not, it can be a reasonably healthy breakfast if you choose good quality ingredients and cook them properly with a good oil.

Ok, I know its no salad, but when was the last time you had the same satisfaction eating a salad as you did with mopping the last bit of runny yoke of the plate with the piece of soda bread you saved from the start?

I’ll let you in to a bit of a secret.  When it comes to an Ulster Fry, for me, it must be washed down with a mug (not a dainty cup) of sweet tea (i.e. a good strong brew with a couple of tsp of sugar).  I never take sugar in my tea any other time, apart from with certain savoury foods, of which the Ulster Fry is king.

You can’t look at this image and not want a ‘fry up’!  Go on, admit it!  So, why not treat yourself to a good hearty Ulster Fry to kick start your weekend!  After all, according to the Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink, it is “Ulster FRYday”!
